Goodness is right! The crunchy, sweet, grainy healthy breakfast cereal is a winner. I added a few tablespoons into my Greek yogurt for lunch and I was sold. Loaded with Omega-3 and 6’s, protein and fiber, this cereal is more than just a cereal. Oh yeah, its Gluten-Free and contains Hemp seeds too.
Vegetarians and vegans have difficulties incorporating protein and iron into diets. This product has both. Add the protein from the yogurt and I just had well over 20 grams for lunch.

What is Chia anyway? It’s not the pet you have on your kitchen windowsill, but rather a high protein, low calorie, high fiber, gluten-free old school seed that the Aztecs used to eat and use as currency. Pretty cool stuff.
I want more of this and I want it now.

My birthday was wet, but that did not stop the hundreds of Beer Fest attendees from flocking to South St. Seaport to sample both local, national and international craft beers. The mood was fun, the beer was flowing and the laughs were being had by all.
Aside from the downpour, the Brew Fest was fun. Local favorites like Defiant, Chelsea Brewing, Southampton, Brooklyn Brewery and Heartland Brewery tried to make a name for themselves with national staples like Dogfish Head, Victory and Green Flash poured some interesting libations. New to the NY area are a few organic and/or green breweries such as Uinta, Peak Organic, Otter Creek/Wolavers, Magic Hat/Orlio Organic, Flying Dog and Clipper City. They were a treat from other eco-breweries such as Sierra Nevada.
The money raised from tickets went to support the local New York beer scene. Improvements, according to their website, were made from last year, but I do have one pretty big gripe with the event. Not enough brewery representatives actually were present. The event was mostly an in your face, show off our brewery and get drunk, not a look what we can do, now let’s talk shop fest.
I would have preferred the latter, but NY has less strict laws than other states, so it is sort of expected.
Check out some of those breweries if you’re bored. I do apologize for not snapping any pictures, but the rain prevented me from doing so. Good to meet all the Hop Heads under the FDR though!
I liked the Cola and now it’s time for the Orange and Twist flavors from Zevia. The lemon lime Twist works really well with vodka and the orange is a great thirst quencher. The lemon lime is nothing special, it tastes like a less sugary version of Sprite or 7-Up. The natural sweetness from the Stevia is not as sweet as sugar but all natural, and just better for you.

The orange flavor is a very drinkable, thirst quenching beverage . Who doesn’t like orange soda though? I mean, it’s great!
People will argue that and the FDA has not officially approved Stevia as a food nor drug, but it is legal in America.

How do you clean baby bottles, fold laundry, or make an important phone call when you are caring for an infant who wants to be in mommy’s arms? Easy. Get yourself an organic baby carrier from New Native Inc. Go to newnativeinc.com and choose from an exciting array of stylish slings to carry your baby close to you and have your hands free at the same time. Or, use it to soothe your baby if they are fussy and want to feel like they are back in the belly. If you click onto the Why Wear Baby? link, you will find this excellent reason:
Wearing a baby in a soft carrier allows parents to easily pat, stroke, caress, rock and communicate love for their baby. Studies have shown that wearing a baby three hours per day or more creates stronger bonding… Babies who enjoy a greater amount of tactile (touching) experience have a correlated higher level of self-esteem later in life.
Who doesn’t want that for their child? Nancy Main started New Native Inc. in 1992 with this is mind. She also gives back to the global community through numerous outreach programs.
As a new mom, I love this carrier. As soon as I put my son, Colton, into it, especially if he is fussy, he is neutralized. It makes him feel safe and cozy, and makes me feel the same way. I love that the material is organic and soft, and that there are many ways to carry him. If you are a mom, or a dad, check out this excellent product!

In honor of my birthday, we are taking today off and we’ll be back on Monday. The NY Brewfest is tonight (South Street Seaport) and Beer week is all week long in NYC. Go out and try some local and possible organic beers. Local is the new green so support your local economy and brewery.
In other news, what do you guys think of the new format of only posting 3 times a week rather than 5? Leave us some feedback!

Go check out our friends Thing-One on Saturday night in NYC. Cupcakefest performers Thing-One from Jersey are releasing their new record at The Mercury Lounge. Hit them up if you are around!

This bar is fragrance and color-free for you allergic people out there. Much like the Kahlua bar, Vapor also falls apart easily if not drained well, but it kept me clean for the few weeks I used it.
Not much else to say about this shampoo bar, but Serpentine seems like a cool, DIY company and their website is chock-full of helpful shampoo tips and how-to’s.

Check it out and support the little guys and girls around the country.

australian Scent’s mission is to provide natural alternatives to personal hygiene products by not using harmful chemicals and other eco-friendly practices in their line of product.

I like shampoo and soap bars when they do not get all gooey. I decided to try Ayers Rock. I applied the bar onto my body for a week or so. My skin was soft and clean, but Lala hated the smell. The clove oil was way to powerful. The package states it has cocoa butter, turmeric, honey and paprika and some added scents from orange, nutmeg, lemon and clove. I enjoyed the results of the body bar, but overall, the scent was not my thing and certainly not Lala’s cup of tea either. Apparently her sense of smell won.

Handcrafted, brewed ginger ale is starting to show up on retail store shelves more than it has in the past and it’s for good reason. Health conscious people do not want traditional sugary sodas anymore. They are into healthier alternatives with actual nutritional benefits.

Reed’s brews are more than just a soda. Like a good craft beer, Reed’s prides itself in handcrafted brews made with ginger. Ginger is known for its medicinal properties and benefits. It is hghly present in the brew.
The Cherry Ginger contains 22 grams of ginger per bottle and contains cherry juice and tastes good. It’s tart and slightly spicy from the ginger. It is very refreshing and worth trying if you are into ginger.

Reed’s also produces Virgil’s Cream Soda sthat my Dad absolutely loved. He said it tasted traditional and blows Brown’s away! I did not get to sip it, but I trust my Dad’s opinion.

Crystal Salt Lamps are supposedly a natural way to improve the air quality in your space. The negative ions are increased with the heating of the salt from the lamp thus benefiting people who suffer from allergies.

I am not sure if the salt lamp is actually helping my allergies. The dim light makes the salt glow with a nice romantic light. However, I cannot confirm nor deny previous stated claims. There are a few different types of salt lamps (Himalayan, Polish and Persian) to choose from.
So if you’re into this type of remedy, check it out and if you run out of salt for your potato recipe, you know where you can get some extras.
