My Time to Wake Up

My Time to Wake Up is a simple clothing company with a simple and bold statement. Time To Wake Up. Wake up and try to help the world. The black organic cotton shirt fits nicely but it’s not as soft as other brands I usually wear. The shirts are Anvil Brand Organic Cotton, a very large shirt manufacturer, but maybe in the future My Time to Wake Up will have their own line.

They do have bamboo shirts available now and we’ll be reviewing them shortly. The logo is simple and makes sense. The back neck area sports the IUTU which stands for It’s Up To Us. Another good slogan that I’m proud to wear.

I’ll be reviewing the bamboo shirts in the future, so stay tuned and check My Time To Wake Up!

ReRecycle from Brand of the Free

I love my t-shirt collection and this one is high on the list of good shirts. It’s an organic cotton shirt with the recycling logo screened onto it, but with attention paid to the details of the logo. Inside the classic recycle logo contains many mini recycle logos. The green ink on black, Made In the USA, organic cotton is soft and fits like a medium should fit.

If you buy this shirt from Brand of the Free, you are going to look really awesome around your neighborhood. I truly love this shirt and I am proud to wear it. Best part of the shirt is the tagless low impact screen-printing! Can’t mess with that or the sweatshop free, fair labor/wages and all the other green practices that Brand Of The Free uses!

Haven by Hotel Collection for Macy’s

Macy’s exclusive brand, Hotel Collection, has a line called Haven of organic cotton towels. They are nothing fancy, nothing extraordinary, just average organic cotton towels. The problem is they do not absorb too well.

They are soft and comfortable, but need to be washed more often then an average one. They are hard to locate if you search by brand and maybe that’s a sign of something.

I have the hand towel, face cloth and regular size towels. Though the color is nice, the actual product could be a lot better.

    Nau Denim

Nau’s Loose But Not Slutty Jeans right off the bat have an office look. They are very casual with clean lines and no trendy holes or scrapes. Nau chooses their materials very carefully which can be seen in every piece of clothing they make. These jeans are made of organic cotton with raw denim produced in Turkey. The material is twice dyed with an indigo for the beautiful blue color saturation. Mike thinks the color is too dark, but for me, it is perfection. Without any tags to take away from the design of the jeans, there are no distractions and no snagging when putting a belt on. The natural, organic denim is stiff. This helps in the office as it will not crease and wrinkle that easily during daily wear but can also take the abuse of labor intensive jobs. The hardware is nickel free as to help people whom are highly allergic to some materials.

My favorite part of the jeans must be the wide belt loops. Usually it is hard to find nice jeans that will accept the abnormally wide belts, but these have no problems. In fact, it is actually better for your hip having the wide belt loops as it removes pressure sometimes felt. Inside the jeans is a small hanging band just in case you are in a changing room and need to hang up your pants. The right pocket contains a smaller insert for keys, change or a small cell phone.

Nau’s instructions state to wash inside out with cold water and line dry and never use bleach! However, I have been washing these on tumble low in my dryer and the jeans are holding up well. I have only one complaint with these jeans… sizing. The length is standard and may need to be tailored as do other premium denims. Premium denim costs more (obviously), but these jeans can take a beating and still look perfect.

Unfortunately Nau is closing shop. This makes me very sad, but you never know what can happen in the future!

    Artifex Shirts

It’s not even Christmas and I got coal. Well, sort of. The shirt is made of olive green/brown organic cotton with a black silk-screened coal plant across the chest. The design is simple and not offensive. The Coal Plant shirt not only fits both width and length like a medium but it is an attention grabber. People will wonder what it means and that’s what I want.

    artifex shirts

Artifex gives back too. The Artifex brothers donate a portion of their profits to environmental causes. They also give $3 from each of their popular Windmill shirt to North Dakota based Native Energy.

I really like the shirt and I am proud to be part of the Artifex club. Stay tuned for more Artifex shirts in the future!

Herbal T from Truly Organic Apparel

A few weeks ago it was really beautiful outside. The trees were green, the pollen count was high and the sun was shining brightly and I decided to go for a bike ride. I threw on my bike riding shorts, grabbed my Timbuk2 Metro bag filled with the essentials and decided to test out the Truly Organic Apparel shirt.

This t-shirt is unique because it is not only made from organic cotton but it uses natural dyes to color the shirt which means no chemicals are used in the process of making the fair trade clothing.

    truly organic apparel

Each one of the Herbal T’s is hand dyed resulting in a unique color and texture. The style is not really something I would wear out normally, but for biking it was perfect. The shirt resisted my sweat and did absorb some moisture, but it wasn’t too clingy when I took the shirt off. It fits like a medium length wise, but is a little too wide for me (compared to American Apparel sizing).

The olive green color is actually more of a brown olive mixture, but it’s not bad. It totally clashes with my Nau shorts, but I’m not trying to impress anyone.

Truly Organic offers both lines for men and women besides t-shirts. They have work clothes and play clothes so check them out. Please just follow the instructions when you wash the clothes, it’s VERY important!

When I say this is the softest tee shirt I have ever worn, I am for real. The Statues: Don’t Just Stand There (women’s long sleeve tee with text) is 70% Bamboo and 30% Organic Cotton. I have one in the color storm, which is a lovely shade of light purple, and I have it in a large to fit over my preggo belly.

    Becky Redman

I Heart the Environment. That’s obvious because I launched Leafygreen.info over a year ago with all good intentions of creating a site for the green-minded individual who wants to go greener.

Becky Redman’s unique messages are cheeky, feisty and a bit bold, but I heart her ideas. Screened on a beige canvas bag, the passive color of white lettering boldly declares Fucking Recycle printed in the classic font Helvetica inside a large block of light pink. That statement right there says it all. The bag is a statement that recycling is no joke and it should not be taken lightly. The bag is strong and sturdy and rather large too. I have brought it shopping to all types of stores. I am hesitant to use it at the grocery store for fear that it will get dirty.

    Becky Redman Fucking Recycle

The bag is quite spacious. I have managed to fit two days worth of clothes for a weekend trip and more. It’s awesome. Lala says that it’s too feminine to walk around with, so she always steals it, but I think she loves it more than me. What do you think of the bag? It’s totally masculine!

Swear words are not always the answer, but it gets the point across when you need to, so Fucking Recycle! It’s the right thing to do.

    Becky Redman Fucking Recycle

Becky hearts the environment too. She even made an awesome poster on recycled paper to prove it. As seen proudly mounted on my living room wall, I’m thrilled that someone made such an appealing poster. Becky’s poster is printed on lightweight recycled paper, but it’s in Metric sizes (A1), so be warned if you want to mount it in a frame.

The small red heart is centered on the page with the words, The Environment, on the bottom of the poster. The bold black Helvetica really exhibits the classic feel to the poster. I love the poster because it looks great, says a message and has the recycled look to it. Becky is based out of the UK, so the poster was shipped overseas and it shows, but I think that adds to the character of the poster itself.

    i heart the environment

If you don’t like either of those statements, I am sure you will be able to find something you will like. Check out Becky’s website which doubles as her online art gallery. It’s truly wonderful and eye-catching. Mr. T likes it too!

    Respect Your Mother

This is the last review for the All Female Week. What do you think?

There is only one Mother Earth and Local Celebrity wants us to respect it. I love my mother, the Earth and cute hoodies, so what could go wrong with this combination? This soft, organic cotton with water-based inks is a keeper. It’s really comfortable, runs true to size and does not shrink (I tried). The mellow green color is nice and the black ink has a distressed, vintage look to it, which stands out on the green cotton. The Earth is not too big on the chest and the back logo is nicely sized as well.

    local celebrity

Local Celebrity produces attention grabbing clothing that are bound to have people asking about them and the Respect Your Mother line fits that commonality that they are going for.

Celebrities and hipsters love their clothing and I think this hoodie is just too cute. You can buy Local Celebrity clothing online and select retailers.

My mom really likes it too and so should you.
