The Battle of Green Scouring Products

I ran an experiment with two unique, green scouring products. The battle featured Bathroom Stone and the A-Ben-A-Qui. My kitchen sink was quite dirty from paint and normal daily usage. The bathroom was ready for a good scrub as well and a few afternoons ago it was time for the throwdown.

I followed the simple instructions from A-Ben-A-Qui and tested a small area of the sink for starters. The dirt seemed to just vanish before my eyes in some sort of bizarre magic trick. I continued to clean part of the sink and the dirty mess continued to vanish and the white sink returned to its bright self. I left about half dirty and attempted to use the Bathroom Stone.

A Ben A Qui

The bathroom stone is designed for bathrooms, but my kitchen sink is made from porcelain and the Bathroom Stone said it would work. Made from recycled glass and other post-consumer products the Bathroom Stone is rather eco-friendly, but it did NOT do as good of a job as the A-Ben-A-Qui did. I put down the stone and returned to the tub of pink miracle goo.

A-Ben-A-Qui is environmentally safe, non-toxic, non corrosive, non flammable and does not contain VOCs, petroleum nor chlorine! Aside from all the lack of potential harmful chemicals, the A-Ben-A-Qui actually works. After scouring the now glistening sink with A-Ben-A-Qui, I headed into the bathroom to scrub the shower floor and the sink as well.

The A-Ben-A-Qui worked really well again, and the Bathroom Stone just seemed to be par. It did not get any of the goo off of the tiles, yet the A-Ben-A-Qui did and once again A-Ben-A-Qui wins.

This pink stuff works. I will continue to try the Bathroom stone, but I won’t trust that it will scour as well as this oddly named product called A-Ben-A-Qui scours.

Here are some before and after pictures… really, it’s NO JOKE

Stop Beer Warming Chillster Pint and Flying Dog

When the cold weather turns into sunny, warm days, there is really nothing better than sitting down on the balcony sipping an ice cold beer from an ice cold glass. Not all glasses need to be made of glass, however. From the makers of The Chillster, Stop Global Beer Warming created a Chillster pint glass made from PET (recycled plastic) that actually contains the same proprietary ice crystals that The Chillster does but inside the base of the pint glass.

    Garde Dog & Chillster

The glass is designed to keep your beer cooler longer and it works. I sat outside on the balcony sipping my Garde Dog, Flying Dog’s Spring/Summer Seasonal Farmhouse Ale, and boy was I content. The beer is very light, summery with a hint of spice and fruit. I then followed the Garde Dog with Flying Dog’s Winter Ale also known as The K-9 Cruiser. This beer warmed me right up with it’s dark body and malty taste.

Flying Dog is one of the pioneers of beer innovation with both web-based ideas such as The Open Source Project, blogs and microblogs as well as being cruelty-free and eco-friendly. Their mash is given to local farms for bedding, for instance.

Flying Dog knows beer and this is a spring/summer hit! So, let’s try to stop Beer Warming by purchasing these shatterproof, dishwasher safe, non-toxic, pint glasses. A portion of the proceeds goes to The Alliance for Climate Protection so you are doing a good thing for the Earth and the beer.

Now, the team at Stop Beer Warming/The Chillster provided a coupon code for all you lucky beer drinkers out there. Use coupon code leafygreen for a free pint glass. Buy 3 Chillster Pints and get the 4th FREE! Add 4 individual pints to your cart and use the Coupon Code: Leafygreen and the fourth will be free.

They also have shirts too with the same logo that adorn the glass. They are fun and green!

    White Grape Sparkling Beverage

I gave The Simple Kitchen another chance with their White Grape Organic Sparkling Beverage and here are the results. Ed did not like the Grapefruit, I almost couldn’t finish the Lemon and Mint, but the White Grape is different.

    The Simple Kitchen

It actually had no taste to it. I did not taste grapes, lemon nor honey. The beverage has the same amount of calories (60) as the other beverages and is still 100% organic, but is flavorless as well. I’d be better off drinking water.

Sorry, organic doesn’t always mean great flavor.

The lemon and mint review is making the pot boil, read about it!

    Ban T-Shirts Think Green

Although it was not quite what I was expecting, I do love new t-shirts. I have designed some green shirts for my website which are sold through CafePress, however, I was glad to see another company selling clever and well designed shirts.

    photo-9.jpg

Ban T-Shirts sells shirts designed for different topics like politics, organics, peace and Native Americans. The shirt I am reviewing is the Think Green shirt. At first look you see a deep dark green screen printing of a half tree half brain at a nice size across the chest. Ban T-Shirts uses American Apparel brand for this shirt which means high quality and made in the US of A in sweatshop free factories.

I never wear new clothing without washing it, so I waited until I needed to do my laundry and am currently wearing my freshly cleaned shirt. One wash and the shirt, size large, now fits perfectly.

    photo-6.jpg

My grudge with this shirt is the actual screen printing. They do not use inks that hold up in the wash. The texture in the screen printing is gone and the green is flaking already. You can tell that a few more washes and this off white shirt with green ink will become an undershirt due to color fade.

Ban T-Shirts may have nice designs, but they should find a new screen printer.

**POSITIVE NOTE** There model for this shirt is definitely cuter than I am

    A Leafygreen.info lunch review

    Wrap-N-Mat Sandwich

Sometimes, it is hard to review a single product at time and we just have to combine many products. Today’s one of those days. For lunch, I brought a sandwich to work. Sound generic, but in fact, it is not. The sandwich was transported in an eco-friendly, washable wrap called Wrap-N-Mat. Unlike those plastic Tupperware containers, the Wrap-N-Mat is enviro-friendly and ideal for housing a sandwich of normal to slightly larger bread sizes. We’ll get to the sandwich further down below.

The Wrap-N-Mat’s unique design is very versatile. One side is lined with PEVA or PVC. PEVA is more environmentally friendly than PVC, however, either one is food safe. The Kelly Green PEVA Wrap-N-Mat is shaped like an octagon making it very easy to wrap the sandwich. It features a bright logo next to the velcro tab for sealing the mat.

As you can see above, wrapping the sandwich is very easy. No more need for those sandwich bags that get tossed away post-lunch or trying to make more room in your lunch bag because your plastic container’s too large. The Wrap-N-Mat really works well too. I tested it out with the following sandwich and there was no leaking or mess.

The sandwich consisted of a toasted whole wheat roll, a few slices of the Roasted Tofurky, a few slices of soy cheese, a couple of jalapenos and Bone Suckin’ Mustard. The Roasted Tofurky was very similar to other Tofurkey flavors. The jalapenos really went well with the Bone Suckin’ Mustard. The reason is because Ford’s Gourmet Foods Bone Suckin’ Mustard is sweet and hot. Its all natural flavors include brown sugar, molasses, paprika, jalapenos and of course mustard.

The sandwich was great and I used my Wrap-N-Mat as my plate. It’s very easy to wash, just soap and water.

Finally, just because I wanted to, I ate Newman’s Own Organics Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups. They totally made my lunch complete!

Save money and the environment, consider purchasing a Wrap-N-Mat, especially the PEVA lined ones. Check out wrap-n-mat.comWrap-N-Mat SandwichWrap-N-Mat SandwichWrap-N-Mat SandwichWrap-N-Mat SandwichWrap-N-Mat Sandwich
