Nau Denim

Nau’s Loose But Not Slutty Jeans right off the bat have an office look. They are very casual with clean lines and no trendy holes or scrapes. Nau chooses their materials very carefully which can be seen in every piece of clothing they make. These jeans are made of organic cotton with raw denim produced in Turkey. The material is twice dyed with an indigo for the beautiful blue color saturation. Mike thinks the color is too dark, but for me, it is perfection. Without any tags to take away from the design of the jeans, there are no distractions and no snagging when putting a belt on. The natural, organic denim is stiff. This helps in the office as it will not crease and wrinkle that easily during daily wear but can also take the abuse of labor intensive jobs. The hardware is nickel free as to help people whom are highly allergic to some materials.

My favorite part of the jeans must be the wide belt loops. Usually it is hard to find nice jeans that will accept the abnormally wide belts, but these have no problems. In fact, it is actually better for your hip having the wide belt loops as it removes pressure sometimes felt. Inside the jeans is a small hanging band just in case you are in a changing room and need to hang up your pants. The right pocket contains a smaller insert for keys, change or a small cell phone.

Nau’s instructions state to wash inside out with cold water and line dry and never use bleach! However, I have been washing these on tumble low in my dryer and the jeans are holding up well. I have only one complaint with these jeans… sizing. The length is standard and may need to be tailored as do other premium denims. Premium denim costs more (obviously), but these jeans can take a beating and still look perfect.

Unfortunately Nau is closing shop. This makes me very sad, but you never know what can happen in the future!

Sling & Stones Organic Denim Review

    sling and stones

You can purchase jeans anywhere, but there is a big difference between jeans that are made for the general public and denim made for socially conscious consumers.

Sling & Stones is a small company with the mission of creating handmade organic denim products while using local materials when possible, paying fair trade wages, and giving back to the community at large.

Here’s what goes into the Sling & Stones products. First, the Supima fiber (grown locally in America) is spun into yarn using a small family-run Japanese mill. The twill lining is produced of organic cotton grown in Peru, where the Peruvians make fair wages and are happy to farm cotton rather than being forced to farm cocaine as they were in the past. The twill and denim are embellished by 24k gold plated hardware and thread from India.

The cut of my jeans is called David. The denim is S&S Staple Japanese Organic Supima Selvage. The finish is Synthetic Dyed Indigo. In plain English, the jeans are a straight fit, dark indigo.

This is my first pair of selvage denim jeans. After reading about selvage, I found out that they are meant to be very stiff, but breaks in well. The denim is very comfortable and sturdy. The straight fit is nice and slimming, and there is a low rise and button fly. The buttons are probably my favorite part. Besides being 24k plated gold, they are also square. They do take a few tries to get used to, and after a few uses, the button holes loosened up a bit. One thing that doesn’t work too well for me is the inseam. There isn’t any room to pull the jeans up any higher. Everybody has a different shape in their torso, and I think I have a longer one than most. Aside from the inseam, the jeans are great and they definitely receive compliments from friends and strangers alike.

Sling & Stones is not just another high end organic company, they are artists and innovators. They are giving back so much to the community both foreign and domestic. Their art truly shines through in these jeans. I love them and I’m happy to wear them.

I’d suggest checking out slingandstones.com where you can find all sorts of information such as to what others are saying, store locator (Stockist), the men’s and women’s collection and more.

Hopefully there will be more reviews in the future, so keep checking back.
