Bumblebar Review Part 1

Bumblebar’s organic energy bars come in so many flavors that I will need at least three separate reviews for all of them. However, here is some background history first. Bumblebar has been around for more than 10 years and today there are over 10 flavors to choose from. Bumblebars are designed to be energetic, as well as vegan, gluten-free and ethically sourced.

Go visit BumbleBar.com for more information on the company. Now, let’s get down to the flavors.

Chai with almonds is up first. It’s full of almond slivers and mildly flavored with the usual chai ingredients; ginger, vanilla, cardamam, cinnamon, and tumeric. I really liked this and I’m glad it was my first choice. Good source of protein too.

Chocolate Crisp was an even better second choice. It was like a healthy chocolate bar but with sesame seeds and brown rice for that crispy pop.

Original Mixed Nut contained lots of nuts. Both roasted almonds and cashews, as well as sesame and flax seeds. It contains lots of fiber and is high in fat due of the nuts. I liked this bar, but it was very nutty, maybe a drop too nutty. You have to expect that, though, it is called Mixed Nut after all.

Original Almond was very good as well, and I enjoyed it more than the Mixed Nut. I like cashews, but without the cashews in the mix, the roasted almonds flavor really comes out making this a really good bar.

The Cherry I did not care for. It was too chewy and gooey. It seemed like it was melting. The use of organic cherries did not work so well for me.

Overall, I’m enjoying Bumblebar’s energy bars. I’m eating them for lunch and it’s keeping my hunger down and giving me some extra energy. Bumblebar does not dd caffeine or synthetic chemicals, but rather takes advantage of the Earth and what she has to offer.

Check back for a few more reviews of the rest of their line.

    Concrobium Mold Control

Combating mold can be an unhealthy nightmare and my solution was preventative maintenance. In my bathroom I sprayed Mold Control from Siamons Concrobium all over the floors, ceiling, bathtub, the shower door, the sink, the cracks and grouting. Basically everywhere I could and so far no mold.

    mold control concrobium

I am not going to lie, I did NOT have a mold issue before hand, but I wanted to see how it worked. The grout hasn’t been getting moldy or darker since using the eco-friendly Mold Control.

Concrobium Mold Control forms an invisible layer of protection designed to not only fight mold and fungus, but prevent it as well. It’s sold at numerous retailers like Home Depot, Lowe’s, and local places too.

On The Mold Control website, you can find information about why fighting mold is important, how to’s and more useful reading. So, if you want an eco-friendly mold preventer or combatant, check out the site.

    Sweet Sunshine Hot Sauce

Unlike other hot sauces that we have reviewed previously, Sweet Sunshine’s Hot Sauce is really hot. It’s not like traditional hot sauce, but more like barbeque sauce. The sauce works really well on veggie burgers, with fries or potatoes or any other way you want.

    sweet sunshine

I would not recommend using this sauce if you don’t like hot foods, because it is really hot. I am a fan of hot sauces, but this is very hot for a barbecue sauce. What will happen when it comes time to test out the Atomic Sauce from Sweet Sunshine? We may just disintegrate or something.

I guess you will have to find out soon.

Herbal T from Truly Organic Apparel

A few weeks ago it was really beautiful outside. The trees were green, the pollen count was high and the sun was shining brightly and I decided to go for a bike ride. I threw on my bike riding shorts, grabbed my Timbuk2 Metro bag filled with the essentials and decided to test out the Truly Organic Apparel shirt.

This t-shirt is unique because it is not only made from organic cotton but it uses natural dyes to color the shirt which means no chemicals are used in the process of making the fair trade clothing.

    truly organic apparel

Each one of the Herbal T’s is hand dyed resulting in a unique color and texture. The style is not really something I would wear out normally, but for biking it was perfect. The shirt resisted my sweat and did absorb some moisture, but it wasn’t too clingy when I took the shirt off. It fits like a medium length wise, but is a little too wide for me (compared to American Apparel sizing).

The olive green color is actually more of a brown olive mixture, but it’s not bad. It totally clashes with my Nau shorts, but I’m not trying to impress anyone.

Truly Organic offers both lines for men and women besides t-shirts. They have work clothes and play clothes so check them out. Please just follow the instructions when you wash the clothes, it’s VERY important!

    Zevia Cola

Sounds like some sort of character from Star Wars, but it’s not, silly Jedi. Zevia contains Stevia also known as sweet leaf. It’s an herb from the rainforest. It’s a natural alternative to sugar and is gaining popularity nationwide. Legally it is not to be used as a food additive, but is approved as a dietary supplement. Companies like Coca-Cola use Stevia in their beverages outside of the USA because of the FDA regulations in America.

    Zevia Soda

Zevia jumped on the bandwagon and use Stevia in their line of healthy, sugar free sodas. Zevia Cola does indeed have the distinct cola flavoring sans the unhealthy artificial ingredients. Zevia’s calorie count is under 5 per serving; thereby Zevia is a satisfactory choice for healthy soda drinkers.

I first read about Zevia from Hungry Girl and she liked it, so maybe you will too. Don’t trust our word; pick up a can for yourself.

Zevia currently has three choices, Cola, Twist (Lemon Lime) and Orange. Come on back for two more reviews. Did I mention Zevia is all gluten free and vegan?

Dave’s Mushroom Maftoul with green beans and eggplant

    Leafygreen Whats Cooking

Maftoul or pearl couscous is a larger couscous than what I am used. Ziyad Brand offers a few different varieties of imported all natural Middle Eastern grains such as the Maftoul Baladi that I used in this dish.

    DavesDinner

They are easy to cook either by microwaving or boiling the couscous in the bag it comes in. I added Dave’s Gourmet Wild Mushroom pasta sauce over the top of the maftoul and then mixed in Trader Joe’s eggplant and Del Monte Organic Green Beans.

This dish was outstanding! The pasta sauce was the best tomato sauce I have had in my life. That’s not a joke. Dave knows what’s up because the sauce is undeniably sensational! I loved what I made for dinner. All of the ingredients mixed together harmoniously.

These canned green beans are organic, so no chemical preservatives are added.

Can’t wait to make this again, but in the meantime, I’ll see what other products I can try from Dave and The Ziyad Brothers.

    Bamboosa Shirts

Bamboo you say, without Pandas attacking me in masses mistaking me for food! This is true, shirts made of bamboo with amazing qualities.

I have 100% Bamboo Fine Jersey Long Sleeve and Short Sleeve shirts. First thing I noticed was how unbelievably soft the shirts are. It is really just short of silk or the finest thread count linens. I usually wear a white cotton tee under every shirt I wear, even other t-shirts. That is sure to change now that I’ve tried these. The shirts are extremely comfortable, they look nice, and surprisingly they wash extremely well. No pills or shrinkage. They came out of the wash the way they went in.

    bamboosa

My favorite part of the shirts has to be the natural anti-microbial properties of the fabric. This allows you to wear the shirts for extended periods of time without having to worry about odor. The shirts also help regulate body heat by being naturally cooling in heat and warm in the cold.

I have actually learned a ton about bamboo as a resource from trying out these shirts. It’s actually quite astonishing, check out Bamboosa’s site for more info regarding this; it’s kind of mind boggling the sort of facts they have. Needless to say, the shirts are great and I’ll definitely be picking up some more.

Black Bean, Tomato and Corn Quinoa

    Whats Cooking on Leafygreen.info

Welcome to the first edition of What’s Cooking? Hope you like this new feature where we review products by cooking with them.

I stole this recipe from Meatout Mondays, which oddly enough gets emailed to me on Friday. We decided to try it out and improvise just a tad bit.

    quinoa.png

The recipe was awesome. I added some corn to the mix and a few drops of habanero sauce to my portion. It was such a great dish that Lala and I have passed it onto everyone we know. We purchased the quinoa at Trader Joe’s, but they have quinoa at various supermarkets now too.

Quinoa is the official grain of the Mayans. It’s healthy and high in protein for a grain.
