Opie and Dixie Wholesome Pet Solutions

It comes very natural for me to purchase non-toxic and organic products for my family and our home.  As a matter of fact, it’s a priority.  So it makes sense that it be equally as important when it comes to our pets and their care.  We have two dogs and my least favorite thing to do, and theirs too, is to bathe them.  I have to drag them, literally, into the tub, heave each of them in, and watch as they hold their heads down, with their tails between their legs, as if I’ve just forced them into some sort of torture tomb.  The least I can do while putting them through all that agony is wash their bodies with products that don’t contain toxic chemicals or artificial crap.  I recently got to try several of the products from Opie and Dixie’s Wholesome Pet Solutions line of pet care.  I received the following:

  • Oatmeal and Almond Shampoo
  • Botanical Crème Rinse and Conditioner
  • Rosehips Dry Shampoo and Conditioning Mist
  • Organic Ear Wash
  • Healing Paw Balm

First I’ll say that my absolute favorite is the Dry Shampoo.  I can basically give a dog a “bath” in the kitchen if I want to.  It lessens the strain on my back and stress on either of the dogs and there’s no mess or the need for several towels to dry either of their soaked bodies.  The very first ingredient is purified rain water.  Wow!  That’s a pretty great way to use our natural resources, don’t you think?  With the blend of organic herbs and essential oils, this is a product that I absolutely love.  You simply just give a few sprays, scrub a little, and wipe your pooch with a towel.  It doesn’t necessarily offer a deep clean, but I love that it leaves my dogs smelling fresh with scents like lavender and rosemary until I have the time for a full battle in the bathtub.

The shampoo and conditioner are both very nice as well, but I don’t necessarily feel the need for a conditioner for my dogs.  The less time we need to spend wetting, scrubbing, and rinsing, while in the bath, the better for all of us.

I haven’t really used the organic ear wash much.  I guess I’ve never been good at ear care when it comes to my dogs, but they also haven’t had any major problems with them so I think we’re doing okay there.  I love the Healing Paw Balm, though.  I actually applied some to a small sore on my dog’s back and it helped with the healing really nicely.  Now that it’s winter and we live in the northeast, I think it will be very comforting for their paw pads after walking on the snowy and salty sidewalks outside.

The only downside to this fabulous line of pet products is the cost.  They are fairly pricey so I may not purchase them on a regular basis, unfortunately.  Aside from that, I highly recommend them for your pet if you are seeking to switch to non-toxic products as part of your pet’s grooming regimen.
