Ecover Laundry Wash

Ecover

Method Home Products makes a nice smelling laundry wash that works well and comes in a PET (Polyethylene terephthalate aka recycled plastic) bottle. There are other companies trying to compete in the new eco-friendly cleaning supply market. Ecover has been around since 1980 when they decided to create a phosphate-free cleaning solution from their labs in Belgium. For almost 30 years, Ecover has grown to the world’s largest producer of ecological cleaning products. Ecover has locations throughout the US, UK, Switzerland and Belgium. They are a well-respected, eco-friendly company. Their mission is to provide effective, sustainable solutions for the hygienic needs of mankind.

Ecover’s lavender “laundry wash” is a plant-based soap, containing citric acid, planet-based fragrance and other natural ingredients. The unique formula has been researched to perfection. It is shipped in a 100% recyclable bottle and is made from polyethylene and polypropylene.
The detergent uses less than a full cap of soap for a full load and the largest bottle contains enough soap for up to 40 loads.

The soap is a little sudsier than other eco-detergents, but did not leave a soapy residue. It doesn’t contain brighteners, which means there are no potential chemical reactions with your skin. Ecover Laundry Wash works well, leaves your clothing smelling fresh and it is biodegradable and does not test on animals.

It’s safe to say, with Ecover Laundry Wash, the soapy water that drains from your pipes will not hurt marine life and those Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when it reaches the sewers.

Ecover also produces cleaning solutions for your home. Try it out, the bottles might not be as modern or trendy as Method, but they make a nice product! Come back soon for more Ecover reviews or visit Ecover.com.

    Planet Laundry Detergent Review

Planet makes cleaning supplies such as laundry detergents, general household cleaners, and recycled paper towels. Planet certified biodegradable, heavy duty laundry detergent is scent free and dye free. Planet’s slogan is “environmentally friendly cleaning products that work!”

All of Planet’s cleaning products are strong and effective, hypo-allergenic, biodegradable, cruelty-free, non toxic to aquatic life, phosphate free and vegan. That is what separates them from other brands. They are a large company, but they put the environment firrst.

The laundry detergent worked well and the small sample I was sent was enough for two loads. If your clothes aren’t too dirty, just use less and you will be fine. My clothes came out without any bleeding of color and smelling fresh. Since the detergent is unscented, my clothes just smelled clean. Planet is a nice change from smellier detergents made with harsh chemicals.

Planet can be purchased at Whole Foods and many large health food stores. Check it out at PlanetInc.com. Stay tuned for more reviews from Planet Inc.

    **** UPDATE *****

    * Vegan: we do not refer to Planet products as Vegan. While we don’t test on animals or use animal products, we do use contract facilities to package, ship etc. our products. While chances of cross-contamination are slim to none, we have not in fact certified that absolutely everything in the supply chain right down to the grease on rollers where the boxes are printed are vegan. So we don’t make that claim.

    * Planet characteristics you listed do separate it from mainstream brands. However, the main thing that separates Planet from other “green” brands (or mainstream brands that make “green” claims) is that we have the only readily-available, full line of household cleaning products that are CERTIFIED as biodegradable. There is almost no government oversight of that label claim, and just about anything breaks down given enough time. So anyone can print that claim on their product label. Therefore we have gone to a respected, independent, third-party organization, Scientific Certification Systems, that has very high standards for biodegradability, and we formulate our products to meet those standards. This is why Planet does not contain colorants, enzymes, optical brighteners, or added scents, because all those tend to increase the amount of time it takes for a product to biodegrade. (They also happen to be ingredients that people with allergies or sensitive skin tend to have the most trouble with. Because Planet does not contain those ingredients, Planet is less likely to cause an allergic reaction, so Planet is considered hypo-allergenic. ) Certification lets consumers know that the Planet “biodegradable” claim is meaningful and not just marketing.

    * We are actually a small, not a large company. We are the second-largest “green” household products company in the industry. But we are a teeny tiny drop in the bucket compared to the huge household giants like Johnson & Johnson, Proctor & Gamble, etc.

    * Planet may be purchased nationwide at Wild Oats stores (rather than Whole Foods, although it might be found in the occasional store here or there.) Planet is also found nationwide in several grocery chains, in natural foods stores, and online at www.Amazon.com, www.Needs.com, www.Drugstore.com, and others.

Epic: Environmental Products for Important Causes

I sampled two Epic cleaning products: free & clear glass + mirror cleaner and citrus + ginger all purpose cleaner.  I only use environmentally friendly cleaning products because I can’t stand the smell of conventional cleaners and the accompanying headache.  I also love the idea of aromatherapy through cleaning; it makes it a little bit enjoyable.

I really liked the citrus + ginger smell.  It was invigorating and did the job I wanted it to do; which was to clean surfaces.

    epic free and clear

Although free & clear glass + mirror spray obviouly has no scent, it cleaned glass and mirrors as well as conventional cleaners minus the chemical cocktail.  I was impressed that it left no streaks.

I would definately purchase epic products and am looking into others because in addition to the quality, Epic donates all profits after taxes to environmental conservation, research and education. Now theres a company putting their money where their mouth is!

method glass cleaner & microfiber cloth Review

Method offers a fun way of cleaning with the combination of glass cleaner and microfiber cloth. No need to waste paper towels. The matching blue microfiber means you will always remember which cloth goes with which cleaning product. The window cleaner does a nice job of cleaning besides from being environmentally friendly. It contains corn alcohol, a biodegradable solvent, fragrance oil (mint) and blue coloring. I was wondering why the blue color and it appears that people prefer their window cleaners to be blue. No nasty, obnoxious smelling bleach, ammonia or other chemicals added.

I wash my microfiber cloths after every couple of uses in the laundry. I just throw them into the machine with my other towels.

    Clean clothing from Method Home

Once you’ve gotten your clothes good and clean with Method laundry detergent, it’s time to dry them. I tried the dryer cloths to see if my clothes would come out feeling any softer than usual, and remarkably, they do. Dryer cloths are still made from paper (un-green), but they make up for it by using plant-based softeners, coconut-derived emulsifier, oil fragerance and purified water. The dryer sheets are wet out of the package and do not leave your clothing gummy and white.

I also add my anti-static cloth into the dryer and my clothing comes out smelling fresh and fluffy.

    Twist Euro Cloth Review

On Twist’s website, they pose the question… “What if a sponge and a paper towel had a love affair?” The answer is simple and it’s called the Euro Cloth. It’s a paper towel with a chamois type of feel to it. It’s small enough for accidental party fouls, to regular daily kitchen cleanups post dinner. It holds the water in like crazy then you can just ring it out or let it air dry back to normal.

The coolest part is the simple, 70s packaging that doubles as a bird feeder. I have enough birds on my balcony, so I don’t want to set that up, but let me know if you do and I’ll hook you up.

The twist cloths are fun, unique and a great product. Paper Towels are so 2004, step it up with Twist. You can buy them at Wild Oats and more, check the locations here.

    method aroma ring review

    Method Aroma Ring
The idea behindmethod’s aroma ring is to not use electricity to keep your home smelling like cut grass, but rather use oils in a sealed membrane to keep small spaces smelling lovely. The freshly cut grass scent is really nice in my condo. It brings me back to the dreaded task of cutting the grass at my parents house when I was a kid, but without the labor and green sneakers. It’s very portable, so it’s perfect for your office cube, the hotel room that you may be shacked up at for a week or your tiny apartment. It’s meant for small spaces, not for large rooms, so I would not suggest using the ring in your great room.

    method aromd ring

For $8.00 you get a reusable ring and two packs, and you can purchase refills from here. They are safe from pets, children due to the sealed membrane, but pleas do not puncture the package or there will be a mess.

In all seriousness, it’s a good smelling product and the energy saving feature is very nice. Like all scents, you get used to it after a day or two and you have to rely on friends and family, neighbors, etc to comment on the lovely freshness of your bathroom in order to remember it smells nice in your place.

Take a look at methodhome.com for more information.

Eco Touch: Waterless Car Wash Review

First, click here if you want to see pictures of my car in action, then continue reading below.

Eco Touch is a simple, waterless car washing system. That sound pretty complicated. It’s 100% not difficult at all. The Eco Touch system requires three parts. The waterless spray, microfiber towels and some elbow grease. First you spray the car with the waterless product and wipe it clean. Then use another clean towel to dry it off and give it that extra shine. Note that Eco Touch is not that great on really grimy surfaces, so remember that. My car was really dirty and dusty. I actually hadn’t washed it since the fall. The Eco Touch brought back the shine that it used to have. The 22oz kit comes with 4 microfiber towels and one 22oz waterless spray. It’s enough for 4-8 washes and for under $20, you not only save the environment, you save money in traditional pay car washes.

It took me a good 30 minutes to clean my car with Eco Touch. I think if i wash it again, this weekend, it will really shine. My car was dirty to say the least. Eco Touch really took care of most of the dirt, but there is always more. I was very pleased with Eco Touch and I want to recommend it to anyone who wants to wash their car without water.

Another great benefit to Eco Touch is the mobility and portability. In my condo complex, I do not have access to a hose, so the traditional spray down the car method doesn’t work, plus it’s a waste of resources. I could bring a bucket of water downstairs and wash, but that again is a waste or water and would not work well. The waterless system is perfect. I don’t need a bucket, nor a hose, I simply need the spray and a few towels.
