I gave The Simple Kitchen another chance with their White Grape Organic Sparkling Beverage and here are the results. Ed did not like the Grapefruit, I almost couldn’t finish the Lemon and Mint, but the White Grape is different.

It actually had no taste to it. I did not taste grapes, lemon nor honey. The beverage has the same amount of calories (60) as the other beverages and is still 100% organic, but is flavorless as well. I’d be better off drinking water.
Sorry, organic doesn’t always mean great flavor.
The lemon and mint review is making the pot boil, read about it!

The Simple Kitchen, a NYC company, was founded with the idea that organic and healthy beverages can exist. The Lemon and Mint Sparkling Organic Beverage is consistent with this notion.

This beverage was not great. In fact, it was almost not worth finishing, but for the good of the review, I had to struggle to get past the puzzling taste.
The 100% organic ingredients contain lemon juice, honey and peppermint extract, however, it is definitely missing something. I do not like to speculate on what because I am not an expert. Aside from the peculiar taste, it only has 60 calories, so it is pretty healthy alternative to other beverages.
The Simple Kitchen is an eco-friendly company who uses a green printing company, biodegradable materials for their packaging and when their café opens at 361 West 17th Street in NYC, reclaimed wood will be used there.
The Collaborator Doppelbock is Flying Dog’s unique approach to creating a unique beer. Collaborator was born as result of the Open Source Beer Project. Homebrewers around the country submitted their ideas and it was born. That sums it up easily, but you can read more about Open Source here.

The brew itself is straightforward Doppelbock. It’s a strong and malty beer with a slight roasted taste to it.
Flying Dog is one of the leaders in craft beers and this is another great example. If you are headed to the Atlantic City Beer Festival, drop by their booth.
Cheers!
Soy On The Go, a new product by Zen Soy are individual servings of soymilk. The cappuccino flavored soymilk really sounded good, but after trying it, I was rather disappointed. This soymilk is organic, non GMO, Vegan and all that, but one thing it was missing was flavor. It definitely needed more of a kick.

A positive aspect of Soy on The Go is the packaging. It’s packed in Tetrapaks and that makes me happy. Hopefully the vanilla and chocolate soymilk taste better. Come back soon for those reviews.

Gotta love these juices with sparkling water because they always seem to hit the spot. Super refreshing, Fizzy Lizzy Northern Lights Cranberry falls right in line with the rest. What more could you want than a drink that is 75% juice with the rest being seltzer? Nothing, I say. They also do not add any sugar or preservatives, so you don’t need to worry about what you’re drinking.

It’s nice to be able to pick up a drink without having to think about it and know you’re going to be happy and refreshed. Pick some up I say – it’s definitely worth it.

Izze Sparkling Grapefruit vs. The Simple Kitchen Pink Grapefruit Sparkling Beverages

What beats a grapefruit cut in half with a little sugar sprinkled on top, for breakfast? Not many things in my mind. A grapefruit is a refreshing, healthy start to a day. So why not enjoy this treat during the day without the hassle of dealing with the fruit itself? Well we can. With many drink options out there for us it is easy. I sat with two particular options that are both juice and sparkling water, which seems awesome, so I tried them.
Izze Sparkling Grapefruit juice was first, with a 70% juice to 30% sparkling water breakdown. Taste is great, almost like drinking the little bit of juice left when you’ve finished your grapefruit for breakfast. The addition of sparkling water provides a kick that makes it that much more refreshing. “No refined sugar, no caffeine, no artificial anything ever, it says on the back of the bottle. Now my pregnant wife wants me to buy some right away, being that it’s hard to find things she can drink and eat that she really enjoys and that are actually good for her and the baby. Izze has 160 calories per 12 oz bottle.
The Simple Kitchen Pink Grapefruit Sparkling Organic Beverage, has a breakdown of 23% juice and 77% other stuff (Sparkling Water and Organic Honey). It is on the opposite spectrum of the first drink. This one tastes of seltzer with hint of bitter grapefruit with a strong sparkling water after taste. It’s only 60 calories but that is due to it being mostly water, I assume. This drink is also USDA approved Organic.
Between the two drinks I personally would choose the Izze. Though the drinks are advertised as grapefruit, the Izze is more for the true grapefruit fans, with The Simple Kitchen drink being a low calorie water beverage with a slight grapefruit flavor.
Till next time…
And a word from Simple Kitchen…
I know many doctors now advise pregnant women to go very light on fruit juices as they are mostly sugar. Most of the nutrients and fiber are in the flesh/pulp/skin of fruit, not in the juice.

Wheat grass is either loved or hated. There is really no middle. I love Amazing Grass’ Chocolate Green Superfood. It actually grew on me. At first, I have to admit, I did not care for it. It was odd, but I continued to drink cup after cup and I’ve really come to enjoy it.
It’s a strange blend of ingredients such as barley, alfalfa, spiralina, spinach, acai, green tea, acerola, raspberries, flax seed, sea salt, and of course cocao and wheat grass. A full list of ingredients can be found here, but it’s vegan and organic.
The powder easily dissolves into your water or soymilk. It’s very grassy, like eating your front lawn, but covered in the dry hot chocolate mix.

I did feel much more energized every single time I drank my Superfood beverage. I was ready to roll. If you are nervous about trying to drink wheat grass, pick up a little sample pack to start.
It will honestly, take some time to get used to, but your body will thank you in the end. If you want to read more about wheat grass and Amazing Grass, see after the jump.

This was a good wine that nicely matched with my New Years Eve Dinner of hearty Indian food from Bhoj. This vegan Cabernet Sauvignon is full of flavors such as black cherries and currants.

Zico Mango Coconut Water is not bad. The mango is subtle, which I don’t think is a negative. The coconut water’s refreshing flavor combines rather well with the minimal amount of mango juice.
This is by far the most refreshing coconut water beverage that I have ever tasted.
Come back soon, because Zico has some exciting stuff coming up.
