Envirosax

Based on strong pro-environmental beliefs, Envirosax was founded to try to eliminate the use of plastic bags. They also promote moving to a much more environmentally friendly direction. This direction shows in their product. The bags that I used are sturdy and fold up nicely into a larger bag for easy storage. They are cute too.

The patterns are not fading, unlike the previous bags that I reviewed, but I still love those. Bags that conveniently fold up are perfect for girls who don’t want to carry around more things with them.

It seems now that Envirosax has an organic line including hemp, cotton and linen. That’s another step in the right direction. Check out their site and purchase some today.

    BioBags

There really is a problem in the way we dispose of garbage. Unfortunately, we are all used to plastic bags for their strength, resistance to odors, and their ability to fit into all sorts of garbage cans. For the last few years, I have been using garbage bags made out of recycled plastic and they work just as well as virgin plastic. I thought it was time to try out some new technology.

Bio Bags are biodegradable, hence the name. They are made out of corn and will degrade back into the earth within 18 months. The bags that I am using are much thinner than your normal virgin or recycled plastic bags, yet they hold up with the normal household garbage. I have been using the BioBags in the kitchen and they hold up well and do not allow for the garbage’s odor to penetrate.

    biobags

Unfortunately, while separating the bag from the large spindle, I ripped two bags right down the middle. They were totally useless because of this. I realized that you need to be a little more gentle removing the bags because they are much more sensitive to tears.

I have not fully decided if I plan on using the BioBags or revert bag to my recycled plastic (PET) bags yet. Any thoughts? Leave some feedback or send us an email.

    Sweet Sunshine Hot Sauce

Unlike other hot sauces that we have reviewed previously, Sweet Sunshine’s Hot Sauce is really hot. It’s not like traditional hot sauce, but more like barbeque sauce. The sauce works really well on veggie burgers, with fries or potatoes or any other way you want.

    sweet sunshine

I would not recommend using this sauce if you don’t like hot foods, because it is really hot. I am a fan of hot sauces, but this is very hot for a barbecue sauce. What will happen when it comes time to test out the Atomic Sauce from Sweet Sunshine? We may just disintegrate or something.

I guess you will have to find out soon.

    Xtrema Skillet

    whats cooking

After using this skillet for the last few weeks or so, I decided it was time to write about it. The heat is thoroughly and evenly distributed and food cooks really well. The high sides make it a great tool for sauces or full dishes in one pan. The trivet is designed to match the base of the skillet and it fits like a glove. Overall, it works well.

Why I’m reviewing cookware? It’s eco-friendly of course, here’ how.
The skillet is made from ceramics and does not contain metal. It also is oven, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, broiler and table safe. It’s a multi-talented skillet!

    extrema.jpg

Because of the eco-friendly properties of ceramics, there are no toxins in the dish so none can seep into your food while it’s being cooked. The cookware has a 50 year warranty but do not drop it, that is NOT covered. Ceramic is fragile, so be careful.

There are so many more facts I could list, but back to the review. It’s not too heavy, very sturdy, but I’m just afraid of how it cleans. So far so good, but you really have to give it a good scrubbing to get it nice and clean.

I got to support my Jersey friends over at Ceramcor. Check out their site for soon to be released products.

    Artifex Shirts

It’s not even Christmas and I got coal. Well, sort of. The shirt is made of olive green/brown organic cotton with a black silk-screened coal plant across the chest. The design is simple and not offensive. The Coal Plant shirt not only fits both width and length like a medium but it is an attention grabber. People will wonder what it means and that’s what I want.

Artifex gives back too. The Artifex brothers donate a portion of their profits to environmental causes. They also give $3 from each of their popular Windmill shirt to North Dakota based Native Energy.

I really like the shirt and I am proud to be part of the Artifex club. Stay tuned for more Artifex shirts in the future!

    Flip Flop Rug

My recycled car tire welcome mat had to be relocated to a new area to make room for the new, bright and squishy flip flop floor mat. The rugged black tire mat was getting boring to look at and made my condo entryway look stale. I opted to move it to another location and replace it with a brightly colored mat made of leftovers from a flip flop company. The remnants are arranged in a diamond pattern and are really cushiony and soft.

I like the colors and the feel both with and without shoes, but the pattern leaves much to be desired. I actually think the welcome mat would look even better in a random pattern or with one type of remnant.
    flip flop rug

Other than the pattern, I really like the welcome mat. I did not get rid of my old recycled tire welcome mat. It’s just inside now and being used differently, no worries.

You can buy the floor mat from VivaTerra. They offer all sorts of recycled products, such as rice paper bags turned laundry baskets and even more!

Herbal T from Truly Organic Apparel

A few weeks ago it was really beautiful outside. The trees were green, the pollen count was high and the sun was shining brightly and I decided to go for a bike ride. I threw on my bike riding shorts, grabbed my Timbuk2 Metro bag filled with the essentials and decided to test out the Truly Organic Apparel shirt.

This t-shirt is unique because it is not only made from organic cotton but it uses natural dyes to color the shirt which means no chemicals are used in the process of making the fair trade clothing.

    truly organic apparel

Each one of the Herbal T’s is hand dyed resulting in a unique color and texture. The style is not really something I would wear out normally, but for biking it was perfect. The shirt resisted my sweat and did absorb some moisture, but it wasn’t too clingy when I took the shirt off. It fits like a medium length wise, but is a little too wide for me (compared to American Apparel sizing).

The olive green color is actually more of a brown olive mixture, but it’s not bad. It totally clashes with my Nau shorts, but I’m not trying to impress anyone.

Truly Organic offers both lines for men and women besides t-shirts. They have work clothes and play clothes so check them out. Please just follow the instructions when you wash the clothes, it’s VERY important!

    Spinach Sensations Zucchini and Onion

Wannabe Hot Pockets, but much healthier. The spinach, zucchini and onion filling blend really well in this dough shell. They microwave quickly, but I bet you could toast them if you want. I liked the Feta and Spinach better, but with less fat and more veggies, the Spinach, Zucchini and Onion Sen
