Izze Sparkling Grapefruit vs. The Simple Kitchen Pink Grapefruit Sparkling Beverages

Izze Grapefruit vs The Simple Kitchen Grapefruit

What beats a grapefruit cut in half with a little sugar sprinkled on top, for breakfast? Not many things in my mind. A grapefruit is a refreshing, healthy start to a day. So why not enjoy this treat during the day without the hassle of dealing with the fruit itself? Well we can. With many drink options out there for us it is easy. I sat with two particular options that are both juice and sparkling water, which seems awesome, so I tried them.

Izze Sparkling Grapefruit juice was first, with a 70% juice to 30% sparkling water breakdown. Taste is great, almost like drinking the little bit of juice left when you’ve finished your grapefruit for breakfast. The addition of sparkling water provides a kick that makes it that much more refreshing. “No refined sugar, no caffeine, no artificial anything ever, it says on the back of the bottle. Now my pregnant wife wants me to buy some right away, being that it’s hard to find things she can drink and eat that she really enjoys and that are actually good for her and the baby. Izze has 160 calories per 12 oz bottle.

The Simple Kitchen Pink Grapefruit Sparkling Organic Beverage, has a breakdown of 23% juice and 77% other stuff (Sparkling Water and Organic Honey). It is on the opposite spectrum of the first drink. This one tastes of seltzer with hint of bitter grapefruit with a strong sparkling water after taste. It’s only 60 calories but that is due to it being mostly water, I assume. This drink is also USDA approved Organic.

Between the two drinks I personally would choose the Izze. Though the drinks are advertised as grapefruit, the Izze is more for the true grapefruit fans, with The Simple Kitchen drink being a low calorie water beverage with a slight grapefruit flavor.

Till next time…

And a word from Simple Kitchen…

I know many doctors now advise pregnant women to go very light on fruit juices as they are mostly sugar. Most of the nutrients and fiber are in the flesh/pulp/skin of fruit, not in the juice.

    Teko Light Hiking Sock Review

    Great Scott! I mean Socks…

    Teko Socks

Both Mike and I enjoy the outdoors immensely. With a reservation loaded with hiking trails nearby and an annual camping trip, we own plenty of gear to use in these situations.

As far as hiking socks go, I own a few pairs. At the moment they are pretty old and standard warm hiking socks. So I get my hands on these Light Hiking Teko Socks, probably the most hi-tech socks I’ve ever had a chance to wear, and I’m instantly excited. The feel of them is amazing; the EcoMerino® Wool is remarkably soft to the touch, even softer on the foot. Loaded with vents to keep your foot cool, sewn in a way to keep you comfortable, because they are shaped just like your foot.

My tests for these socks would be one full day of work and a hike around the neighborhood. In a day, I walk 30 city blocks in Manhattan and probably close to two miles around the office. First thing, these are the most comfortable socks that have ever been on my feet. My feet tend to get hot on my walk to work and during the workday, with these socks it was not the case. I wondered how this could be since the socks were wool, interesting. Next thing, the socks never bunched up on any part of my foot, and when I took them off that evening no lines or wrinkles in my skin. They never felt tight yet never felt like they were falling off. So upon arriving home I threw on my hiking boots for the full test. Braving the cold I took to the hills of my neighborhood. The socks kept me warm, felt great in my boots, did more than I could ask for.

As a company, Teko has taken every step to be as environmentally conscious as I have seen a company try to be. They’ve taken these steps in each part of their processes to get you these socks. The Teko website takes you through their sustainability strategies explaining more than you could hope to know. The website is definitely worth reading if you’re interested.

I am now sad that I only have one pair, since I officially have been spoiled and hate all the other hiking socks I have. Its been a wonderful experience, but unfortunate for the old socks. I’ll be looking to get a few more pairs of these before the hiking/camping season officially kicks off.

    Chocolate Green Superfood

    Amazing Grass Superfood Chocolate

Wheat grass is either loved or hated. There is really no middle. I love Amazing Grass’ Chocolate Green Superfood. It actually grew on me. At first, I have to admit, I did not care for it. It was odd, but I continued to drink cup after cup and I’ve really come to enjoy it.

It’s a strange blend of ingredients such as barley, alfalfa, spiralina, spinach, acai, green tea, acerola, raspberries, flax seed, sea salt, and of course cocao and wheat grass. A full list of ingredients can be found here, but it’s vegan and organic.

The powder easily dissolves into your water or soymilk. It’s very grassy, like eating your front lawn, but covered in the dry hot chocolate mix.

I did feel much more energized every single time I drank my Superfood beverage. I was ready to roll. If you are nervous about trying to drink wheat grass, pick up a little sample pack to start.

It will honestly, take some time to get used to, but your body will thank you in the end. If you want to read more about wheat grass and Amazing Grass, see after the jump.

    Organic Vintners Cabernet Sauvignon

This was a good wine that nicely matched with my New Years Eve Dinner of hearty Indian food from Bhoj. This vegan Cabernet Sauvignon is full of flavors such as black cherries and currants.
