    Quinoa Gold Dark Berry

    Quinoa Gold

Quinoa, pronounced Keen’wa, is a super grain. Quinoa contains a high level of protein, a decent amount of antioxidant power and other healthy nutritional values. Quinoa contains the 9 essential amino acids along with iron, copper, zinc, lots of fiber and more.

Quinoa has been used by the ancient Incas and has recently been harvested again after almost being extinct for years. The Incas would be proud of the natural progression that occurred. Fruit and filtered water with quinoa get blended together in an effort to create a unique super food in liquid form.
The Dark Berry Beverage from Quinoa Gold is sweet and fruity and very smooth. It needs to be very cold and shaken to get the full experience. The agave nectar and citric acid actually make the drink taste like a berry smoothie. However, unlike most smoothies, Quinoa Gold Dark Berry is vegan and organic.

This new company has a bright future and look out for more product reviews in the future. They are currently looking for beverage distributors, so drop them an email or give them a call.

Cherry Limeade from Sweet Leaf Tea

Sweet and tangy was my reaction after tasting this beverage. Cherry Limeade is part of Sweet Leaf’s new line of lemonades. Besides cherry and lime it also contains cane juice and filtered water.

This mildly bitter limeade is filled with lots of Vitamin C and is only 95 calories. There is no caffeine and it’s organic, which is a plus! Sweet Leaf keeps making us happy here. Though I would much rather drink lemonade, this isn’t a bad alternative. The blend of cherry and lime balances out well.

    Sweet Leaf Tea

No bitter face from this drink. You might want to experiment using this tea in a cocktail too.

    Soda-Club Root Beer

    Soda Club USA

Make your own soda at home with Soda-Club’s products. Soda-Club currently sells four unique soda machine makers. Each machine operates in the same way. They are not powered by electricity at all. No annoying plugs, or batteries to get in the way. All of the Soda-Club products use a 1 Liter bottle that can be washed and reused indefinitely resulting in the reduction of waste and recycling. The soda mix is highly concentrated, reducing packaging and shipping issues.

Aside from the environmental benefits, there are monetary benefits as well. Soda is expensive and is not getting cheaper. Soda-Club’s reasonable prices and value is hard to beat. The kit contains enough CO2 to fill 110 bottles and the amount of soda surpasses that number. Soda-Club also provides instructions on how to return the empty CO2 containers for refills.

    Soda Club

In terms of shipping costs, think globally. You will save the world because of the reduction of gas pollution and carbon emissions by purchasing your long lasting soda kit.

Now with some of the green issues out of the way, how does it taste and is it actually good for me? Well, the Root Beer is the first one I tried and it tasted exactly like Barq’s, with significantly less calories, carbs, sugar and caffeine. Soda-Club has 35 calories while the two leading brand Root Beers contain more than 3 times that amount. This is true for all of Soda-Club’s flavors.

    Root Beer Soda Club

During Thanksgiving, six of my family members tried the root beer. Their reactions were identical. They said it tasted like the “real” thing and was great. My family was impressed when they discovered it was home made. Little did they know…

    Soda Club

If regular soda is not your thing you are in luck! Soda-Club has seltzer flavors, diet sodas, fruit drinks and energy drinks too. There is truly a beverage for everyone.

Please check back soon for more reviews regarding Soda-Club. It only takes 30 seconds to make a refreshing drink, so pour one today!

    Mexican Quesadilla Dinner

This dish consisted of three products I was dying to try. DCI Cheese’s Organic Cheddar Cheese, Lotus Food’s Organic Forbidden Rice and Sweet Sunshine’s Warm All Natural Sauce. These ingredients are all stuffed inside a sun dried tomato whole-wheat wrap.

I started by cooking the rice in the rice cooker. It was the first time using this incredible appliance. The midnight black/deep purple rice cooked up perfect. I followed the rice cooker’s directions, which said to use slightly less water than the rice package stated. The fragrant aroma, nutty taste and nutritional offerings made this rice superb. The rice contains no cholesterol, 1.5 grams of fat, lots of fiber and even more protein and iron. It’s gluten and wheat free too! According to Chinese scientific research, black rice nourishes the kidneys, invigorates the function of the spleen, warms the stomach, brightens the eyes, revitalizes the circulation of the blood and is high in chi.

    Lotus Food Organic Rice

I chose to add slices of DCI Cheese’s Organic Creamery Mild Cheddar Cheese into the wrap to add a bit more flavor. This organic cheese block is golden white, marbled and full of a nutty flavor that complimented the rice perfectly. The cheese melted smoothly and creamy leaving the rice a sticky web of gooey goodness.

    DCI Cheese

A few drops of Sweet Sunshine’s Warm Chili Sauce and the quesadilla was complete. Sweet Sunshine’s all natural chili sauce contains ancho peppers, cayenne peppers, habanero peppers, onions, mustard seed and a hint of citrus. The warmness of the sauce added an elevating flavor to this nutty and creamy mix. The peppers added the subtle heat that was essential for this dish. I also added a few green onions and green frying peppers for a slight crunch.

    Sweet Sunshine Chili Sauce

Overall, this easy meal hit the spot with plenty of leftovers. I’d suggest visiting some of the mentioned companies websites.

Click here to read more about DCI Cheese Company. Click here to read about Lotus Foods and here to read about Sweet Sunshine.

Hurry and visit some of them, it’s holiday season, that means time to warm up and eat hearty, filling foods.

A Green Halloween Party, local beer, organic vodka, VeeV and more

I had a few friends over for Halloween, my favorite holiday, and we partied with the following: Flying Fish Extra Pale Ale, Reyka Vodka, VeeV Acai Liquor, Garden Fresh Gourmet’s Jack’s Special Salsa, and Honey Chipotle Pretzel Dip.

    halloweeeeen snacks

I purchased a keg of Flying Fish EPA from The Rutherford Wine Shoppe. Extra Pale Ale is not only an awesome, mildly fruity pale ale, but its local to boot. Flying Fish, from Cherry Hill, New Jersey does uses organic ingredients grown locally. The BYOG(lass) party was already off to a good start. I didn’t allow anyone to use disposable glasses, but rather I provided glass pint glasses for those who forgot their own.

Flying Fish does participate in green practices. Gene Muller from Flying Fish told me

We recycle close to a million pounds of grain annually with local dairy farmers, plus recycle all glass, metal, plastic, paper and wood. Still trying to figure out a use for shrink wrap. Plus we have a lot of water saving and chemical saving measures in place. Plus we save energy by keeping the thermostat at 60.

We also sell all our beer within a 100 mile radius, so we hope to reduce our carbon footprint that way.

    Halloween Booooothousandseven

There was organic tofu grilled with Grandpa Eddie’s Jamaican Jerk Sauce. We also had chips and Garden Fresh Gourmet’s Jack’s Special Salsa. This mild salsa was chunky and sweet. It tasted as fresh as if Fred’s mother made it, but not as good, obviously.

    grilled jamacian jerk tofu

There were Newman’s Own Organic Pretzels and Robert Rothschild’s Honey Chipotle Pretzel Dip. I think the dip is super spicy, but others disagree. It is sweet and gooey allowing for full coverage of pretzels. I definitely recommend this dip.

Reyka Vodka was once again a hit, Megan drank most of it!! VeeV, a new liquor made with Acai, Acerola, Prickly Pear, ginseng and more is part of the craft liquors that seem to be emerging in the industry. This antioxidant-rich cocktail was well received.

VeeV provided me with a few recipes to try out with their product, so I gave it a shot. I mixed some Club Soda with VeeV over ice for a clean, refreshing sweet drink. Perfect for the summer! VeeV is made with fruits that are known for being tart but VeeV is not. It’s actually very clean tasting, similar to a top shelf vodka.
VeeV is not made with organic ingredients, but they are aware of the environment and the local communities where the acai berries are harvested. This is why VeeV donates a portion of each bottle sold to green initiatives such as the Rainforest Action Network. VeeV is also a member of organizations such as BSR, SVN, Co-op America, EMA and more. [links to these organization?]

VeeV can be purchased online or at select retailers mostly on the west coast, but that is expanding. VeeV’s interactive website is full of important information such as events, ingredients and a VIP page for the elitists out there. Check that out here.

    Veev

Overall, my first attempt at a green Halloween party was a success. The food was enjoyed, New Jersey’s Flying Fish Extra Pale Ale was loved (local) and the green cocktails were sipped up as well.

More parties like this to come, hope to see you there. In the meantime, check out VeeV, Reyka, Newman’s Own Organics and Flying Fish Brewery.
