Grandpa Eddie’s Gourmet Jamaican Jerk Sauce Review

grandpa eddie's sauce
When Eddie says it’s hot, he means it. Jerk sauce is known for the its robust blend of traditional spices from Jamaica. Grandpa Eddie’’s Jerk Sauce is complex, flavorful and extremely hot. Crafted from the ground up, Grandpa Eddie started selling his amazing jerk sauce after giving it away for years. I am glad he did, because the world needs to try this spicy treasure.

The ingredients are simple: scotch bonnet peppers, pimentos, nutmeg, thyme, ginger, cinnamon, garlic, onion, cane sugar, scallions, black pepper, vinegar, and more, but the way it’s blended sets it apart from other jerk sauces I have had.

I marinated a block of tofu with about 5 tablespoons of jerk sauce and let it sit over night in preparation for my parent’s grill. Tofu has the tendency, as you may know, to absorb the flavors of whatever is being cooked and take on that flavor. Grilling the tofu locked in the flavors and allowed the tofu to crisp up on the outside while the inside was moist and juicy. Grilling tofu is my favorite way to prepare tofu. There is no extra oil involved, but just make sure it does not stick to the grill.

The jerk sauce seemed to permeate the tofu in such a manner that it did not make the tofu unbearably hot to eat, but rather made the heat kick in subtly and then all of a sudden, there is a blast of those scotch bonnet peppers.

Making jerk sauce is an art and Grandpa Eddie is an artist. Check out his site, grandpaeddiesauce.com and purchase some jerk sauce, BBQ sauce and more. You can also find him locally around New Jersey at food, wine and other festivals and shows. Eddie is a nice guy, go say hello and tell him Mike from Leafygreen.info sent you.

    function drinks Review Part 1

    function drinks

function drinks is a company with a different kind of goal. function uses all natural ingredients to create all of their drinks. However, function drinks also is physician derived, which is their big selling point. A medical doctor actually developed each one of the beverages with the idea to create something unique, healthy, all natural and tasty.

Each one of the beverages has unique qualities, with distinct taste and functions, hence the name. In this review, you will read my opinions on Braniac, Youth Trip and Alternative Energy.

    Brainiac function drinks

Brainiac also known as the memory enhancer is a made from star fruit, grape and acai. It’s a sweet drink and reminds me of a semi-bitter grape drink. The science behind this drink is similar to other memory boosters, green tea and gingko biloba, but the differences are vast. Brainiac doesn’t use Green Tea, rather is uses the Soy Phosphatidylserine (PS) from the green tea. The part of the green tea that actually aids in memory boost. There is plenty of Zinc and even more Vitamin E. Click this link to see the entire story behind the drink. One thing to note is that Brainiac is NOT vegan, however it is vegetarian, according to the site.

The beverage is known to work fast and really go straight to your brain and I can attest to that. It kicks in immediately and you feel keener then normal.

Alternative Energy is basically a caffeine boost. The drink is made from a combination of different plants that contain caffeine and other energy sources such as yerba mate and guarana. However, for all the energy and caffeine you get from Alternative Energy, you don’t crash and you don’t bulk up on carbs.

Alternative Energy claims to give you sustained energy for 6 to 8 hours with a subtle landing from the boost. For someone like myself, who does NOT drink caffeinated drinks often, this boost was intense. I was wired for the entire day and did not crash or get a caffeine headache after the beverage was out of my system.

Click here to see the science behind Alternative Energy. Note, that Alternative Energy is vegan.

Youth Trip, an anti-aging drink is something I normally wouldn’t drink, but it tastes so good. The taste is similar to Brainiac, but less bitter and more sweet. It’s comes from grape seed extract, buckwheat and acai.

The anti-aging formula contains tons of vitamins such as A, C, D, E, Biotin, Calcium and Zinc. It’s like a multi-vitamin in liquid form. Known to reduce winkles and protect the skin from harmful UV Rays, this beverage works from the inside out. Keep drinking it and let me know happens to your skin.

    youth trip function drinks

function not only has fun names to match their tasty and healthy beverages. Their website is full of details for every aspect of their product and they take pride in everything they do. We were privledged enough to go to a private party after the Fancy Food Show and meet some of the people behind the scenes at function. They are more like a family than a business which is always great.

You can purchase function drinks online, at Whole Foods and various other stores around the country. function drinks also pack their beverages in PET, another Leafygreen.info favorite.

    Wicked Cranberry Chutney Review

I sat in the dim room, the only light provided by the flickering TV set in the corner. As I flipped through the channels, I heard story after story of war, of civil unrest, of oppression. I stared, unwavering, trying to fathom every horrid detail, trying to make sense of wrong and right, trying to see the good behind the bad, and I thought “Man, am I hungry.”

I decided to go to the fridge and try the Wicked Cranberry Chutney that Mike gave me, produced by Cotton Mountain Kitchen based in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. I grabbed some whole wheat crackers, poured a little of the chutney in a bowl, and dug in.

    Cotton Mountain Kitchen

The first thing that hit me was the ginger taste, a delightful surprise that I was not expecting at all. The refreshing cool and tart taste of cranberry next hit my taste buds, followed by another hint of ginger. I was in heaven. Not too sweet, not too tart, a roller coaster of taste sensation.

Over the next few days, I used the chutney to accompany my homemade recipe for granola pancakes, as well as topping a turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread. Each time, the chutney added a little something that enhanced the flavor of whatever I had, without overpowering the dish it was served with. The only problem I had with it was the sometimes overwhelming whole berries,  as opposed to chopped or minced berries, but the overall experience is more than worth your while.

You can purchase the Wicked Cranberry Chutney by clicking here or locally and tell Sharlene that Leafygreen.info sent ya.

The Complete Package aka 360 Vodka Review

    360.gif

Hi…I am Gwen, also known as Intoxicated Zodiac. Come visit me by clicking this.

I’m pretty psyched to get any bottle of alcohol in the mail, but one that arrives in a recycled cardboard box (inner & outer liner made is 20-30% recycled / inner flute of corrugate is 100% recycled. ), in a recycled nesting box, with biodegradeable peanuts… well, words can not express my emotion! with these simple steps, 360 vodka has revolutionized the spirit industry. the saying, it’s all in the presentation, speaks volumes here. there really is no excuse why every spirit company cannot do the same thing. 360 vodka may not be organic, but it does use locally sourced grains, cutting down on the fossil fuel burned from transporting it. the bottle is 85% recycled (70% post consumer), whereas the average wine bottle is 34% recycled. personally, i had no idea that wine bottles were that ecologically minded. the labels on the bottle are chlorine free and 100% post consumer waste recycled). but let’s talk peanuts for a minute…; I HATE THEM! who doesn’t? but, if they must be used, at least biodegradable ones are tolerable. they dissolve in water, and your mouth - i tried them. the only downside is that they are made from corn or soy, which unless labeled organic, is made from GMO (genetically modified seed). which is bad, bad, bad - and kills monarch butterflies, silkworms, and has also been blamed for the bee crisis. some psychics predict that GMO potatoes will eventually be found to cause alzheimers. as for the conventional styrofoam peanuts, before throwing them in the garbage, or reusing them in your own packaging, try planting them! really. my mom uses them in the bottom of all her container gardens to take up space before putting the soil in. they provide excellent drainage, which is important for any potted plants so that they don’t rot. but i’m on a tangent, so back to 360. to top it off, they are participating in a program called “close the loop”, where you mail back your bottle cap and 360 will donate a dollar to environmentalist groups. that is, if you choose to relinquish that awesome bottle to the recycling bin. my bottle will be emptied pretty quickly, as 360 is pretty smooth going down… but they are not gettin’ my cap back!

    Koeze Company Cream-Nut Review

All natural, homemade peanut butter is hard to come by. The Koeze Company, from Grand Rapids, Michigan, has been creating this gem since 1910, After three generations of Koeze, the same two ingredients still are used, nothing more, nothing less, to create the Cream-Nut. These ingredients are Virginia Peanuts and a dash of salt. The peanut butter is creamy, rich, slightly chunky and not salty. It’s a nice blend of peanut butter or Cream-Nut, if you will.

There are 190 calories per serving of which 145 come from fat. Some more nutritional facts are 16 grams of fatty goodness per serving, 8 grams of protein and 6 grams of carbs. Peanuts are not the healthiest food to eat, but the fat is NOT Trans Fat.

Another benefit to Cream-Nut Peanut Butter is it can last 6 months refridgerated and 1 year frozen. The natural separation of oil and peanut is nothing to be concerned with, just mix it up and enjoy. Try it, you’ll love it.

For more information, click here to be directed to koeze.com or here for creamnut.com. You can also pick up Cream-Nut and other Koeze products locally.

Manitoba Harvest Chocolate Hemp Milk Review

Nutty, creamy, smooth, rich… these are just some of the words that come to my mind when describing the Chocolate Hemp Milk. As I stated earlier in the original article about Orginal Hemp Milk, it is an acquired taste.

It’s not bad, but it’s unique. The chocolate neutralizes the nuttiness of the hemp, but it’s still prevalent. I enjoyed drinking this carton much more than the original. Unlike Eric, I actually like chocolate.

Manitoba is a very green company, so if you see the Hemp Milk at the store, pick it up, you may just like it.

I acquired the taste for this milk after my third glass of the chocolate. I’ll be trying my favorite flavor last: vanilla. Stay tuned!

Manitobaharvest.com contains more information, locations, and an online store too.

    ONE Amazon Açai Review

    ONE Açai for me

There is a wonderful berry from the Amazon called the açai (pronounced Ah-sigh-ee and sometimes spelled acai). This superfood contains more antioxidants than pomegranates and is rich is Omega 3,6 and 9, as well as Vitamin C and Vitamin E. Açai is being dubbed “the wonderberry” due to its health benefits. Açai is known to combat aging, increase energy, boost the immune system, improve mental clarity, and detoxify the body.

ONE manufactures a nice blend of açai and acerola, an Amazonian cherry, and packages it in Tetra. This creamy beverage is not too bitter. Amazon Açai from ONE contains 99mg of Vitamin C, calcium, iron, fiber and of the 157 calories, only 25 are from fat.

    ONE Açai for Sebastian

This healthy drink does indeed boost immune systems. I actually felt more energetic and lively soon after consuming the smooth beverage and my normal summer allergies subsided for a the better half of the day. Click to see the antioxidant chart of fruits. If that chart is not enough for you, click around that page to read more about acerola and here to read more about Omega 3, 6 and 9.

Just like ONE’s Coconut Water, I was very impressed by the Amazon Açai and I will continue to drink it. Goodbye allergies!
