Cedarlane Roma Tomato & Basil Stuffed Focaccia

Organic Ingredients, cheese and a blend of spices create one light and easy to cook focaccia. The instructions say the bread can be microwaved or toasted or a combination of both. I opted for both. Microwave for 3 minutes until defrosted then toast for 3 to 4 minutes and the focaccia is perfect.

The soft yet easily breakable crust cooks up without burning, and the inside is full of the cheese and tomatoes. The filling melts together and remains hot and creamy.

The bread has a decent amount of fat, carbs and sodium, but it is cheese stuffed bread so remember that. I added a side salad of spinach, vegan bacon and cucumber, and hard boiled eggs and I was set.

Cedarlane has been producing fresh, healthy, frozen foods for around 25 years and they do a good job. When you’re at your local market, look for the Cedarlane packaging. Its simple packaging shows what you will actually eat and clearly states if it’s organic, low fat, etc. I’m excited to try some different products from Cedarlane.

Look for Cedarlane at many of the giant supermarkets nationwide and the small markets too.

Amys Bistro Burgers and Lindas Gourmet Latkes

The other night, I set out for a healthy alternative to burger and fries I started out by cooking Amy’s new Bistro Burgers, a hearty, grainy, veggie burger. The veggie burger is full of pinto beans, organic brown rice, assorted veggies, mushrooms and a hint of barbecue sauce. The burger is much larger than your traditional veggie burger and really holds up and stays firm when it’s cooked. It is vegan, gluten free and low fat.

While cooking the veggie burger up on the range, I put a few of Linda’s Gourmet Latkes in the toaster oven, set the temperature and waited while the bite size potato and onion delicacies cooked up. Latkes, in case you aren’t aware, are a traditional Jewish/Yiddish food typically found during the Hanukah season. They are typically a combination of shredded potatoes and onions. They are also known as Potato Pancakes. Linda’s Latkes really have the homemade texture and taste. The bite size latkes are perfect for entertaining or as a small side dish. Typically, latkes are supposed to be eaten with applesauce or sour cream, but I dislike that.

Amy's Kitchen

When cooking Linda’s Latkes be careful of your temperature of the oven and your timing. They will burn and become to crisp and crunchy quickly due to the small size of the pancake itself. If you like them crunchy, then don’t watch out, but this is my warning.

I topped the Bistro Burger with some more barbecue sauce, a hint of Tabasco Chipotle Sauce and some Jersey tomatoes and ate them with a few of Linda’s Latkes.

If you are located near California, you can purchase Linda’s Gourmet Latkes from various stores and a few others around the US. Linda makes it easy to purchase if you live somewhere where it’s not available. They have their online store and there are only two choices, large or bite size.

If that’s not enough enticing information, Amy blogs, but who doesn’t nowadays? You can also read more at AmysKitchen.com or LindasGourmetLatkes.com

Expo East, Hug a Vegetarian and all that

In honor of Hug a Vegetarian Day, I bought myself lunch from Serrano’s in Rutherford. This new restaurant, owned by the same people that own Daruma and attached to the side of it too serves up a mean burrito. There will be a full on review to follow after Eric and I get back from Expo East (Natural Products Expo). I’m really looking forward to meeting many of the awesome people that we’ve worked with in the past and all the new faces too.

See you there, I’ll be wearing my Leafygreen.infoshirt. Yes, it is nerdy!

Pangea Organics Review

Pangea Organics

My skin tends to be dry especially after the summer months. No matter what facial creams I’ve used, my skin would still be dry and irritated. I’ve used so many top of the line brands from expensive department stores that promised I would get great results, but instead they would leave my skin irritated because of my sensitivity to the ingredients they use in the creams.

Pangea Organics

In many of those creams, the main ingredient would be petroleum jelly and mineral oil which is irritating and does not soak up into your skin. So I tried using the Pangea Organics facial cream and toner (Facial Cream – Italian Red Mandarin with Rose) for about two weeks now. I use it every morning and at night after cleansing. My skin feels so smooth and I have noticed a visible difference. My make-up goes on smoother and my skin looks radiant. I also feel that my make up stays on better later in the day and looks more refreshed. Before I moisturize using the facial cream, I spray my face with the Pangea Organics Facial Toner (Argentinean Tangerine and Thyme). Using the toner along with the facial cream, my skin feels tighter.

A few people from work have even commented on what make up I’ve been using and I give full credit to the Pangea Organic products. What I truly enjoy from these products is the refreshing scent unlike the other brands I’ve used. I am looking forward to trying Pangea’s other products in the future!

Check out PangeaOrganics.com and more reviews in the future will follow.

Kulfi Bars: Coconut, Malai and Chikoo Reviews

Kool Freeze

I have already reviewed the Pistacio Kulfi Bar, so this time, I have three more reviews for you. Coconut is up first. I’ve already mentioned a few times that I do not like coconut, but I had to try it. The texture and consistency of Kulfi is pretty standard. It’s solid and thick, doesn’t melt too fast and is very refreshing; the tricky part is the flavorings. The coconut is very strong and prominent, not my thing, but a friends tried one and was happy with the rich and fresh flavor.

The Chikoo is a sweet and refreshing flavor. It’s an uncommon fruit found in warmer climates such as Mexico and India. Malai is the South Asian term for clotted cream. The Malai bar is flavored just with the natural Kulfi and Malai flavors. It’s a very heavy and creamy dessert. These unique desserts are very good and I really enjoy the texture of Kulfi.

Burt’s Bees Citrus and Ginger Root Body Wash Review

burts bees citrus and ginger

I enjoy not having to use harsh chemicals on my body when I am getting clean. Citrus and Ginger Root Body Wash from Burt’s Bees is currently my top choice for cleansing my body. Citrus oils and ginger root extract combined with coconut and sunflower oils are what goes into this body wash. The light liquid formula goes on smoothly and the honey and sugar moisturize the body while the ginger root increases circulation to reduce joint pain and increase blood flow. The sweet and citrus scent really help brighten up my morning and faciliate in my morning wake up process.

The wash is better when using a loofah or sponge, but your hands work too. This product is not 100% all natural, but it’s very close at 97.6%.

Burt’s Bees products can be purchased at many big retailers such as CVS, Walgreens, A&P and at smaller ones too. If you’re near the Passaic Park/Clifton area, stop by A1 Nutrition and grab some Burt’s Bees there. You can also purchase Burt’s Bees online.
