Hint Tropical Fruit Review

Hint’s motto is “drink water, not sugar,” and when you crack open their bottle of flavored water you do just that. Hint’s subtle flavor is the point of the drink. Hint wants you to drink water but with just a hint of fruit or vegetables. Hint Tropical Punch contains kiwi, pineapple, and other tropical fruits combined with filtered water. I enjoyed the fruity flavor of the water. It’s not overbearing, not too sweet, not too bitter. Forget that overly sweet other stuff and try water with a spritz of flavor.

Hint is a new company, but they are already receiving some publicity. It’s for sale at Whole Foods, buy online or click here for more locations. The bottles are made from PET and the wide mouth is great for drinking and refilling.

Seeds of Change Athenian Orzo Review

Seeds of Change sells all types of products including salsa, rice and grains, salad dressings and frozen entées, but they also sell their own organic seeds. The name Seeds of Change stems from their farm where millions of seeds have been planted since 1989 to produce organic plants, fruits and veggies. They put their hearts and minds into crafting a range of recipes that use only the world’s most flavorful ingredients.

The Athenian Orzo is a rich and complex dish that comes frozen and only takes 4-5 minutes in the microwave or 50 minutes in a regular oven to prepare. The orzo contains whole wheat flour, lentils, tomatoes, riccota, broccoli, zucchini, red peppers, portobello mushrooms, agave syrup, garlic, carrots, celery, onions and spices. This dish has a distinct robust flavor that is uniquely mediterranean. The bite from the feta cheese really brings the dish together. The portions are perfect for lunch, and there is not the afterlunch slump that you can get from heavier pasta dishes.

Athenian Orzo is also vegetarian. The box is a little misleading because it says “vegetarian chicken flavor,” however if you read further, there is no chicken used. There is milk and cheese.

    The Star Legder’s Munchmobile Trip

    Munchmobile & I

The tofu’s out of the bag. I can post about my trip on the Munchmobile, finally. The Munchmobile is part of the Star Ledger, the largest circulated newspaper in Jersey, where you drive around in a van with a giant hot dog on top, trying different local restaurants all summer long. Each week, on the trip, there is a new type of place and I was fortunate enough to land a spot on the Vegetarian/Healthy trip.

The article is finally done and in the paper today. If you have the Star Ledger, check it out, if not read about the trip here.

My short review is also posted online, click here for that link. In addition to reading, click here to see some pictures from the beautiful day of munching and the videos are online also, click this.

Finally, I expanded on my original review after the drop, so click the header to read the full post.

Guayaki Pure Endurance Yerba Mate Review

Yerba Mate is a drink that comes from the South American plant, Yerba. It’s referred to as the Drink of the Gods and is consumed daily for optimum health, sustained energy, and mental clarity. This organic beverage is not only loaded with vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants, but it contains caffeine. The Pure Endurance from Guayaki packs a powerful punch.

It’s sweetened with organic cane, tangerine and orange juice and is citrusy, but not overbearing. It’s more of a tangy flavor. I am not one to drink loads of caffeine, and this mate has loads of it. But it’s all natural and gave me more energy than I actually needed. The kick was a sustained jolt for a few hours with no crash.

Coincidentally, the other day I was watching the Travel Channel and one of the shows featured the tourguide drinking fresh yerba right out of a gourd. I was very jealous!

You can read my previous post about Guayaki here and stay tuned for more.

    Lauren’s Famous Granola Review

    oats and grains

Lauren has this wonderful habit of making granola. I’m not going to give her secret away, but it involves a dehydrator, some fruit and time. The most recent batch was her best. It was full of Newman’s Own Organic’s Cranberries, dried blueberries, coconut flakes, rolled oats, sunflower seeds, sliced almonds, maple syrup and some elbow grease. Normally, I won’t eat cranberries or coconut, but the granola does not taste like either. The cranberries were very soft, tender and not too bitter. Lauren’s granola has tons of flavor in each crunchy handful. My favorite obviously, are the big clumps, but there is never a boring bite.

She eats it with vanilla yogurt like those expensive yogurts you can buy at the supermarkets. I prefer eating it plain. Either way, it’s amazing. You can’t buy this in stores yet people. But if you want some, let me know and I’ll see what I can do.

    Green Camping Weekend and Reviews

    the cars are loaded

My friends and I headed to Oakland Valley Campgrounds in Cuddebackville, New York for a relaxing weekend in the woods. We tried to make it as green as possible. We thought it was a great success, read the article and let us know what you think.

We arrived early Friday evening, quickly unpacked, set up our tents, and got the fire going. One camping staple that we love is our hand cranked/solar powered radio. The menu on Friday consisted of Lauren’s homemade hummus, made with chickpeas, garlic, lemon juice, tahini, and olive oil, served with Wild Garden Pita Chips and carrot sticks. The Wild Garden Pita Chips were thick and shaped more like a Ritz cracker than a pita chip. I enjoyed them, but others found them to be too hard. They were very crunchy; I could see how some one would think they were stale. We also munched on Newman’s Own Organics Hermits. These soft old fashioned cookie are loaded with flavor. We had the cinnamon Hermits full of organic molasses, sugar, raisin, figs, palm fruit oil and whole wheat flower. For a cookie, they aren’t too unhealthy either with 15 calories from fat. The main course consisted of Dr. Praeger’s California Veggie Burgers. These were very hearty, filled with tons of veggies and grains that you could actually see. They grilled up perfectly. These veggie burgers were a big hit especially with organic american cheese on a wheat bun.

The temperature was probably in the low 50’s or high 40’s overnight and the trees surrounding us really kept the heat out. I bundled up in my Patagonia Synchilla Fleece. This heavyweight fleece is light and soft on the touch. It is made of recycled garments and soda bottles. The jacket is more expensive then normal fleece jackets, but it’s worth it. The fit is perfect. I wear a medium and it was snug and tight, but loose enough to stretch out in. Besides the comfort and design of the fleece, the fact that I’m wearing recycled soda bottles and old worn-out garments sets this jacket apart. It’s totally worth it, especially for a green camping weekend.

    RAWR

On Saturday, we spent the day in the sun and on the water while rafting on the Delaware River. We packed up reusuable water bottles that we filled with water and lemon, a few beers, some cheese and granola bars and headed to White Water Willies just to find out that it had been sold to Silver Canoes, which was still an excellent Delaware River outfitter.

I used sunblock from All Terrain called TerraSport. The UVA/UVB sunblock is biodegradable and all natural. It uses something called Z-Cote which is basically zinc so it really blocks the sun. I liked the non slip and dry grip of the TerraSport. It seemed to work really well in the areas where I actually applied the natural sunblock to. So, needless to say, my back is burnt unfortunately, but that’s what aloe’s is for.

    I also loaded up with
